Product Engineer Build the operating system for international B2B trade, end to end

Overview

DealBase is a compound trading platform built on a single mission: remove the friction from international B2B trade so that companies anywhere can do business with confidence.

Sourcing, quotation, ordering, quality control, logistics and payment are usually handled as separate worlds. We are building an integrated family of products that ties them together around one Deal ID.

In this role you will work across the whole range, from improving existing features to launching new products. Because you will be helping the product grow from its early phase, we will discuss which area you own based on your interests and strengths.

We invest in engineering and take a long view of how the service should grow. Your technical skill and creativity will do a great deal to make our vision real.

  • Define the problems and the value a feature should deliver
  • Design and build new features across the front end, back end and infrastructure
  • Decide the scope of the first implementation, and choose the technologies for it
  • Maintain and operate the product so it runs reliably
  • Support the running and improvement of the service from the engineering side

Be part of the technical decisions, not just the implementation

From the front end through the back end to infrastructure, you can lead a feature from technology choice to quality control. Architecture, stack and design principles are all still being decided; you are here for that phase.

Shape the early team and the engineering organisation with us

Our engineering team is a mix of employees and contractors, and we are shaping both the product and the organisation at the same time. You can lead the work of establishing cross-cutting engineering and design practices for a compound platform.

We run the trade business ourselves, so the picture is sharper

ABCD sources and imports Indian tiles and frozen vegetables with its own hands while building DealBase. Requirements do not come from a whiteboard — the problems we hit in our own operations go straight into the product. There is no distance between you and the user.

Take on problems the large global ERPs have not solved, in an AI-native setup

Unlike the incumbent ERP vendors, who carry legacy code and long-standing customer habits, we are a startup without those constraints and can rebuild from the structure up. Because we develop on the assumption that AI is part of the toolchain, a small team can take on complexity that used to need a very large one.

Requirements

Required experience

  • Building web applications across more than one language and framework
  • A working understanding of how browsers and the web actually behave
  • Designing system architecture that spans the front end and the back end
  • Designing and operating databases, both NoSQL and relational
  • Designing and implementing complex data models and state transitions that span several business domains
  • Owning technology and design decisions yourself, and leading a system from architecture through release and operation

Nice to have

  • Building and operating large B2B products
  • Building and operating products for a global user base
  • Building business systems such as order management, SCM or WMS
  • Working with test frameworks such as Vitest or Jest
  • Onion architecture or domain-driven design, in practice
  • Understanding and experience of microservices and cloud-native architecture
  • Acting as a tech lead for a team or an organisation
  • Implementing or integrating LLMs and AI agents
  • Hands-on operations and maintenance, including monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Zero-to-one development at a startup
